Lamborghini Road Monument
Automobili Lamborghini has been making super sports cars since 1963, real works of art that have traveled through continents and made their mark worldwide. 2016 was the centenary year of the birth of the House of the Bull's founder, Ferruccio Lamborghini; in his honor, Lamborghini created "Centenario," a masterpiece of perfection, innovative design and amazing performance. From 2018, the production will also be enriched with another chapter: the super SUV "Urus," among the most powerful SUVs in the world, which is about to impose itself on the market as a new icon of the Made in Italy luxury. It is therefore to celebrate these events - as well as a vast expansion of its headquarters in Sant'Agata Bolognese, from 80,000 square meters in 2015 to nearly 150,000 square meters in future - that Automobili Lamborghini promoted the Lamborghini Road Monument competition. The contest, launched last September, was an invite for the designers to imagine two monumental installations that would mark the access to the Taurus' historic headquarters. The competition was enstablished with the sponsorship of the Emilia Romagna Region, the Metropolitan City of Bologna, the Municipality of Sant'Agata Bolognese, the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna and Unindustria Bologna, and it was organized by YAC - Young Architects Competitions - a leading group in the management of architectural competitions. "We strongly believe," Stefano Domenicali said, "that the industrial and economic development cannot be separated from that of the territory in which our company operates. This is why in all our actions there is a constant attention to society and to the important aspects in the field of environmental sustainability. The same installation proposals were indeed committed to the use of non-polluting materials and environmentally sustainable technologies, in full accordance with our strategy of ethical responsibility and environmental sustainability." When he was asked "what links Lamborghini to architecture?", Stefano Domenicali answers, "Definitely the fact that they both embody an art form, one on four wheels, the other in urban settings. And then the search for beauty and innovation, the attention to elegance and design, the care for shapes and materials. Ultimately, the approach toward the future: Lamborghini is a protagonist in defining the automobile of the future just as architecture is able to design the city of the future." Automobili Lamborghini is capable of becoming an ambassador of Italianness in the world by combining tradition with innovation, design with pure lines and a visionary spirit. "Our history," Domenicali concluded, "is full of examples that demontrate how our pioneering spirit has allowed us to create masterpieces destined to enter automotive legend forever. What we wanted to reward was the ability to convey these aspects into monumental works capable of reinterpreting the stylistic language and the characteristics of our Brand, through innovative solutions able to reproduce the sharp lines and dynamism of our cars." The jury of the competition, composed of prestigious international figures - four internationally renowned architectural firms, such as Zaha Hadid Architects, Studio Fabio Novembre, Studio Libeskind, Foster + Partners - evaluated the entries together with Francesco Dal Co, director of Casabella, Giuseppe Cappochin, President of the Consiglio Nazionale degli Architetti PPC, Annalisa Trentin from the University of Bologna, and Stefano Domenicali, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of Automobili Lamborghini. Among the numerous projects submitted, two designstudios, both of Italian origin, were awarded ex aequo: ACQ Studio and ZERONOVE Architecture, which obtained unanimous consensus from the jury and, by fall 2017, will be able to see their respective projects at the entrance of Sant'Agata Bolognese.
