Lamborghini Road Monument
Automobili Lamborghini, a leader in making super sports cars since 1963, unveils two installations in celebration of the legend and sculpt in matter the history of speed, power and innovation.
The works were created by two Italian design studios, winners of the Lamborghini Road Monument competition, the international architecture competition launched in September 2016 by Lamborghini in collaboration with YAC.
Celebrating its vast expansion of its headquarters in Sant'Agata Bolognese, from 80,000 square meters in 2015 to nearly 150,000 square meters in future, Automobili Lamborghini promoted the Lamborghini Road Monument competition and invited for the designers to imagine two monumental installations that would mark the access to the Taurus' historic headquarters. The competition was enstablished with the sponsorship of the Emilia Romagna Region, the Metropolitan City of Bologna, the Municipality of Sant'Agata Bolognese, the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna and Unindustria Bologna.
Among the numerous projects submitted, two design studios, both of Italian origin, obtained unanimous consensus from the jury and, by fall 2017, were able to see their respective projects at the entrance of Sant'Agata Bolognese, that were inaugurated in the presence of Stefano Domenicali, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Automobili Lamborghini and the Mayor of Sant'Agata Bolognese, Giuseppe Vicinelli.
The installation of the Miura roundabout, at the entrance to Sant'Agata Bolognese towards Modena, was designed by the ACQ Studio team from Livorno. It is a work with taut, minimal and sharp lines, such as quotations from the stylistic language of Lamborghini cars, made up of geometric surfaces and intersections. The installation fits into the ground and then develops in height with stylized and bent golden shapes, recalling the Lamborghini style.
The work of the San Cristoforo roundabout, located at the entrance to the city towards Bologna, was born from the project of the "0.9" team and is a clear tribute to speed and dynamism. The installation develops the idea of hibernated speed, through the reproduction in sections of the silhouette of a Lamborghini super sports car. The vision of the work as a whole differs depending on the angle of observation, as happens in the vision of a Lamborghini racing at high speed. The metal sections accentuate the dynamic and changing effect of the sculpture.
The jury of the competition, composed of prestigious international figures - four internationally renowned architectural firms, such as Zaha Hadid Architects, Studio Fabio Novembre, Studio Libeskind, Foster + Partners - evaluated the entries together with Francesco Dal Co, director of Casabella, Giuseppe Cappochin, President of the Consiglio Nazionale degli Architetti PPC, Annalisa Trentin from the University of Bologna, and Stefano Domenicali, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of Automobili Lamborghini.
